ABOUT THE SOCIETY

The Northallerton & District Local History Society was formed in 1994.

Membership is open to anyone wishing to support the Society in its aims. Membership requires the payment of an annual subscription, with free Student Membership being available for those under 18. In return for this payment, members are allowed to vote at Society General Meetings and receive free entry to the monthly talks and visits organised by the Society.

The Society is organised around a central committee, which co-ordinates all its activities. This is made up of four elected members (a Chair, Vice Chair, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer), four additional officers appointed from the committee membership (Programme Secretary, Membership Secretary, Minutes Secretary and Publicity Officer) and two other members. There is also provision for two co-opted members.

An AGM is held every year on the second Tuesday in October, with elections of officers and committee members for the forthcoming year taking place at this time. A member's subscription runs from 1st January, coincident with the programme year.

The Society is a member of the British Association for Local History and several of Yorkshire regional historical bodies.
